Are you an engineering student sick of trying to understand engineering geology in a class room or lab environment? Would you like to get outdoors and see geology in situ?

CurTerra is a guided geological field trip on your phone designed to supplement your Curtin University geology knowledge and offer independent learning opportunities to view rocks as they exist in the wild. Using your GPS, the app will guide you around interesting geological formations in Perth, WA, providing you with explanation and insight on what you see.

The app currently includes locations where the following geological and engineering concepts can be observed:

· Igneous rocks: granite, dolerite, jointing,
· Metamorphic rocks: shale/slate, folding, gneiss, shear zone
· Sedimentary : calcarenite, cave formation, wavecut platform, caprock
· Civil Engineering applications: tunnels, slope stabilitation, construction

The current locations in the Perth area include

· Swan View railway tunnel in John Forrest National Park.
· Muderup Rocks in Cottesloe.
· Arthur Head and the Roundhouse, Fremantle.
· Freshwater Bay, Peppermint Grove.
· Ellis Brook Valley Reserve, Martin.
· Lloyd Hughes Reserve, Kelmscott
